To be honest, India has been a very diverse country but talking about the sanitary, specially the sanitary of women in India has been very backward and full of holes. First and foremost in ancient India the women were not given equal status and equal rights as compared to men. We all are aware of the discrimination towards women.

Schemes for the development of women

To secure a special place in the hearts of the women of our country, the Government has given it's fair share in the development of the women.

Many schemes have been passed supporting women. 

The sanitary and personal hygiene of women have also been improved as compared to the Ancient India. Certain toilets has been constructed to support the cause too. 

Ujjwala Sanitary Napkin Scheme 2019

The UJJWALA SANITARY NAPKIN scheme consists of two primary objectives.

• It aims to improve accessibility to basic hygiene product that is sanitary pads. 
• And also creating employment opportunities for women.

The motive of supporting women by providing basic personal hygiene products and also employing them is carried out by oil marketing companies, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity.

Only 33.5% of women of a particular state are using sanitary pads. This statement insure that the Ujjwal Sanitary Napkin scheme was indeed needed very much by all the deprived women. 

BIODEGRADABLE SANITARY NAPKINS

Each center under Ujjwala Sanitary Napkin Scheme 2019 consists of the assets to produce 1,200 to 2,000 eco-friendly sanitary napkins every day. 

The sanitary pads are produced by using virgin wood pulp sheet, non-woven white sheet and a gel sheet. All the ingredients are biodegradable in nature. Thus, leaving minimal carbon footprint.

EACH NAPKIN AT JUST ONE RUPEE

The sanitary napkins which were sold at a whopping price of rupees 10 for a pack of four sanitary napkins will now be sold at a subsidized price of just rupees 4 for a pack of four sanitary napkins. 

Making each sanitary napkin for just 1 rupee.

Mandaviya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Shipping announced in an interview that they were launching oxo-biodegradable sanitary napkins at 1 Rupee from the day after. 

The napkins will be available under the brand name called Suvidha in 5500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras. 

They also added that Subsidy will be provided to bring down the retail price.

AVAILABILITY OF THE SANITARY NAPKINS UNDER THE SCHEME

The sanitary napkins will be made available at the Jan Aushadhi stores. 

And to make the sanitary napkins easily available, the Government has also launched Jan Aushadhi Sugam Mobile App.

The Jan Aushadhi Sugam Mobile App will be used 

for locating Jan Aushadhi stores along with details of generic medicines available in these stores.

Through the app, people can gain the benefits of user-friendly options like locating nearby Jan Aushadhi kendra, Search Janaushadhi generic medicines, analyse product comparison of generic vs brand name medicine in form of maximum retail price (MRP) and overall savings.
